Birmingham City Council issued 65 live penalty charge notices in the first 10 days of a camera trial targeting banned right turns. The council said its moving traffic enforcement pilot began on 15 June 2026 and confirmed the notice total as of 25 June.
All 65 notices concerned prohibited right-hand turns on three roads. Automatic number plate recognition cameras record the registration plates of vehicles making the banned manoeuvres.
Revenue from the penalties is used to cover the camera system’s costs and fund road improvements. The council plans to use findings from the trial when deciding whether to extend the cameras elsewhere in Birmingham.
