Davin Godfrey is seeking an apology from Ireland’s Taoiseach over his treatment as a child at Kerry’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).
Godfrey says he was given a range of medicines between the ages of seven and 19, including antipsychotics, an antidepressant and sedatives. He says he needed support for autism instead. During his teens, he gained weight and developed breasts, which were surgically removed later.
Godfrey is among hundreds of children reported to have been harmed by failures at Kerry CAMHS. He wants those responsible held to account and says the treatment took away much of his childhood.
He is preparing to study law and politics at the University of Limerick as a mature student. Despite his experience, Godfrey says his life is now good.
