Sally Rooney says her publisher, Faber, can no longer supply her books in the UK because of concerns over her support for Palestine Action.
The Irish author of Normal People, Conversations with Friends and Intermezzo continued to back the group after the UK government proscribed it under terrorism laws in July 2025. Rooney had previously said she intended to donate earnings from her books and television adaptations to the group.
Rooney said fulfilling her UK publishing contracts could now amount to a serious criminal offence. She said Faber made its decision after consultation and with her agreement. Palestine Action is not proscribed in the Republic of Ireland, where she lives.
