A woman who accuses Russell Brand of raping her in 2004 told Southwark Crown Court that the “lad culture” of the time deterred her from going to police.
She alleges the assault took place in the toilet of a Soho bar. Asked why she waited nearly two decades to report it, she said she feared she would not be believed against a celebrity.
The woman told the court she was also afraid of being judged as having invited the alleged assault and of facing harsh questioning in court. The rape allegation remains an accusation, not an established finding.
