Prime Minister Andy Burnham has announced a £48 million partnership aimed at speeding up research into dementia treatments and the search for a cure.
The Government will contribute £33 million, with Bristol Myers Squibb, GSK and Gates Ventures also providing funding. The investment will support the Barbara Alliance and help recruit more people for clinical studies.
Burnham pledged to make dementia research a national priority. His father, Roy, died last month after living with Alzheimer’s. The alliance was launched in memory of the late EastEnders actress Dame Barbara Windsor to accelerate the development of dementia treatments.
