Polish campaigners have launched an abortion pill locker in Warsaw, seeking to provide quicker, more discreet access despite the country’s near-total abortion ban.
The pink, 22-compartment AbortOmat sits inside an abortion centre opened by the Abortion Dream Team in March 2025, across from Poland’s parliament. Users can collect pills with a six-digit code. The service is intended for people who cannot wait for delivery because of a missed miscarriage or health complications, as well as those concerned about receiving pills at home.
The Women Help Women foundation and Abortion Dream Team launched the locker. In Poland, possessing or taking abortion pills is not illegal, but providing them or helping someone obtain them can carry a prison sentence of up to three years. Kinga Jelinska, who leads Women Help Women and co-founded Abortion Dream Team, said the machine makes the legal position less clear by placing it between campaigners and recipients.
