Dunwoody High School will hold asynchronous virtual classes Thursday and Friday while crews repair faulty water valves, Principal Tom Bass told staff and families. In-person classes are expected to resume next week after the work is complete.
Valve problems left water discolored in several parts of the building. The school brought in bottled water for students, staff and the cafeteria kitchen; restrooms remained operational. The water problem also temporarily disrupted cooling in parts of the school, but Bass said the affected HVAC units have been repaired, inspected and returned to service.
Essential staff will stay on campus during the remote-learning days. Scheduled campus activities, sports and extracurricular events will proceed Thursday through Saturday.
Bass also addressed concerns about a substance in portable classrooms. Officials said it is not mold, though the school plans professional air-quality testing. The substance has not been identified, and officials have not said what caused the valve failures or when test results will be available.
