A Newnan car dealer has processed the title paperwork for Keilah Bowles’ used Lexus, allowing her to get a permanent tag and drive it legally after months without one.
Bowles bought the 2012 Lexus, which had 115,000 miles, from West Dukes, co-owner of Max Lots of Atlanta. Her temporary tag expired before she received a permanent one. Questions had been raised about the car’s emissions test, which Georgia requires before registration. Dukes referred questions about the paperwork and a $3,300 maintenance warranty to his lawyer.
After an investigation into the sale aired, Dukes processed the title paperwork. The lender financing the car also agreed to remove the $3,300 warranty charge from Bowles’ balance after the warranty company confirmed the coverage did not exist.
The Georgia Attorney General’s consumer protection division says it is investigating Max Lots and has received complaints from five customers.
