A tower crane permit has been issued for a mixed-use development at 7 W. Elm St. in Chicago. Convexity Properties plans the project at the southwest corner of Elm and State streets.
The buildings that housed Barnes & Noble and a Lou Malnati’s restaurant were recently demolished to make way for the development. Convexity acquired the site in September 2025.
An earlier plan, approved in 2021 when Newcastle Limited was the developer, called for a 345-foot building with 304 homes, ground-floor retail and a redeveloped space for Lou Malnati’s. Those figures describe the earlier plan, not a confirmed design for Convexity’s project.
