The Bears made starting quarterback Caleb Williams inactive for Sunday's game against the Packers in Green Bay. He was not designated as the emergency quarterback, so he will not play.
Williams has been out since suffering a Grade 2 hamstring strain against the Vikings on Sept. 20. He did throwing workouts last week, participated in part of Friday's practice and worked on snaps and dropbacks before the Packers game. Coach Ben Johnson had said earlier in the week that Tyson Bagent would start.
Williams could return when the Bears visit the Falcons next Sunday if his recovery continues without a setback. The team faces a short turnaround after that game, hosting the Patriots on Oct. 22, and could give him more time to recover.
He has missed three starts after beginning his career with 38 consecutive starts, including playoff games.
