Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland attended the opening of Knowles-Rowland House in Houston, a housing development for people experiencing chronic homelessness.
The former youth center now has 31 housing units, including 16 designed for residents with mobility or sensory impairments. Residents will have access to mental health counseling, substance-use treatment, case management, life-skills training and nutritional support. Houston nonprofit Bread of Life backs the project.
The singers joined Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 13. The building opened in 1999 as the Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth, with support from Beyoncé and Rowland, who grew up attending St. John’s Downtown Church. Hurricane Harvey damaged it in 2017, and a fire caused further damage in 2021 before its redevelopment as housing.
