Joseph P. “Joe” Klock, a Coral Gables attorney who argued before the U.S. Supreme Court in Bush v. Gore, died Oct. 4 at age 77, surrounded by his family.
Klock represented Florida’s secretary of state in the case that determined the outcome of the 2000 presidential election. His daughter Susan Elizabeth Klock, then a freshman at Georgetown, watched his argument. She also recalled spending time with him at his Miami office, where she helped with small chores.
Beyond his courtroom work, Klock represented indigent clients in criminal, dependency, housing and discrimination cases. He chaired Bay Point Schools, a program for at-risk youth, and served on community boards. Most recently, he was a partner at Rasco Klock in Coral Gables.
