JJ McCarthy nearly erased a 24-point fourth-quarter deficit for the New York Giants on Sunday, but the New Orleans Saints held on to win 34-27 at MetLife Stadium.
McCarthy came in after Jameis Winston was benched and threw for 243 yards. He directed two touchdown drives as New York scored 17 consecutive points, trimming the deficit to seven with 2:04 remaining.
After the Giants’ defense stopped New Orleans, McCarthy got the ball back at his own 29-yard line with 57 seconds left. A 28-yard scramble and a 20-yard pass to Isaiah Likely helped move New York to the Saints’ 14, but his fourth-and-one pass toward Likely in the end zone fell incomplete.
The performance suggests McCarthy may become the Giants’ starter for the rest of the 2026 season.
