The Golden State Valkyries beat the Atlanta Dream 68-64 in Game 1 of the WNBA Finals, slowing the pace against a team known for quick possessions.
Golden State coach Natalie Nakase used 10 players in Saturday’s game, giving the starters rest before the finish. Atlanta used eight, though Madina Okot appeared only for a jump ball at the end of the first half. The Dream lost a late lead.
Both teams struggled to score, combining to shoot below 33 percent from the field. Gabby Williams was the only Valkyries player to reach double figures. Game 2 is next, with Golden State looking to carry over its control of the pace and make more shots.
