Nearly four in ten voters could not name Andy Burnham when shown his photograph in a JL Partners poll. The survey found that 38% failed to identify him, while 62% named him correctly.
Some respondents mistook Burnham for Richard Osman, Mel Gibson or Jeff Bezos. A handful identified him as Keir Starmer. Using an electorate of about 48 million, the poll's figures suggest roughly 18 million people could not identify Burnham.
James Johnson of JL Partners said the result leaves room for voters to form an opinion of Burnham, but also poses a risk for Labour supporters relying on his popularity. Recognition was limited for other Labour figures too: 45% identified Angela Rayner, and 43% correctly named Ed Miliband.
