Ann Widdecombe appears to have defended Nigel Farage in a recorded interview shortly before police believe she died last Wednesday. The former Cabinet minister, 78, finished the interview at about 12.10pm; police estimate she died around 12.30pm.
Speaking to Christian radio station TWR-UK, Widdecombe argued that Farage was facing personal attacks. The Reform UK leader faces a Standards Committee investigation over a £5 million payment he received from a Thai-based cryptocurrency billionaire.
Widdecombe was found the following day in the kitchen of her home in Haytor, Devon. An excerpt from the interview, which had been due to air last week, was played on Tuesday with her family's permission.
Interviewer James Maidment Fullard said he had told police about the recording, but they had not asked to see or hear it.
