Ann Widdecombe was found dead with serious head injuries at her Dartmoor home on Thursday 9 July. Police are investigating her death as a suspected murder.
Counter Terrorism Policing South East has taken over the investigation after new information and evidence emerged. A 28-year-old man from Rotherham was arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday 11 July and later re-arrested on suspicion of terrorism-related offences, the unit said. A detention warrant allows police to question him for up to seven days under the Terrorism Act.
Devon and Cornwall Police were called to Widdecombe’s home in Haytor Vale at about 11.40am on Thursday. Investigators believe she may have been attacked nearly 24 hours before her body was found. The former Conservative minister later served as a Brexit Party MEP and became a Reform UK spokeswoman.
