Fire crews stopped the forward spread of a hillside brush fire in Azusa on Thursday. The fire was estimated at about 43 acres and was 41% contained by 6:10 p.m.
Evacuation orders for Roberts and San Gabriel canyons were later reduced to warnings, meaning residents should be ready if orders return. Water-dropping helicopters responded to the fire near San Gabriel Canyon, east of Los Angeles.
The fire was reported around 12:45 p.m. in brush above a residential neighborhood. Its cause was not immediately known. A red flag warning was in effect for parts of Los Angeles County, with Santa Ana winds expected to strengthen later in the week.
