The US Supreme Court has cleared the Trump administration to resume deporting immigrants to countries other than their homelands without giving them a chance to contest removal.
The court’s six-justice conservative majority temporarily lifted a lower-court decision requiring the administration to give immigrants sufficient notice before deportation. That decision also required an opportunity to raise fears of torture or persecution in the countries to which they would be sent.
The Supreme Court’s action lifts those requirements for now. The order is temporary, rather than a final resolution of the dispute.
