Atlanta could see a spending boost from England supporters when the team faces Argentina in the World Cup semi-final. Revolut data points to a sharp rise in spending by UK customers during England’s previous match in Miami.
On Saturday, when England beat Norway 2-1, UK customer spending in Miami was 322% higher than the previous week, Revolut’s figures show. Spending by customers aged 45 to 54 rose by more than 900%, while older millennials recorded a 600% increase.
England have already played in Atlanta, beating DR Congo 2-1 at the stadium used for their round-of-32 match. A Chase survey found that one in 10 Britons were considering a last-minute trip to the US for the closing matches, with prospective travellers budgeting an average of £4,000 each. England are assured of another game this weekend, either in the final or the third-place play-off.
