Sir Geoff Hurst expects England’s World Cup semi-final against Argentina to be their toughest and most physical match of the tournament so far.
The 1966 World Cup winner predicted a close contest when the teams meet at 20:00 BST. He warned against assuming Argentina’s leading players are past their best, saying Lionel Messi remains a scoring threat if England give him the chance.
Hurst, who scored a hat-trick as England beat West Germany 4-2 in the 1966 final, said the current side faces a difficult task to reach the final. He expects a tense match rather than a comfortable England win, but said he will be cheering the team on.
