England’s World Cup semi-final against Argentina has left some Scottish football fans weighing whether to support their neighbours or hope they lose.
England are two matches from the title. Scotland’s men reached their first World Cup since 1998 but again failed to advance beyond the first round. The countries’ international football rivalry dates back to 1872.
In a YouGov poll conducted before the tournament, 31% of Scots said they wanted England to do badly, while about one in 10 said they would support them. Tartan Army organiser Hamish Husband says he avoids watching England matches because he feels guilty about wanting the team to lose.
