The UK government has approved drilling at the Jackdaw gasfield in the North Sea, drawing criticism from climate campaigners.
Campaigners say the decision could jeopardise climate targets without lowering energy bills or easing the cost of living. Jackdaw lies about 150 miles east of Aberdeen. Its owner, Adura, estimates the project could supply around 6% of UK North Sea gas production.
A separate decision is still pending on Rosebank, a much larger North Sea oilfield. Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh has said it will take longer; she is reported to be leaning towards rejecting its approval.
