The Beaux Arts Village town council unanimously approved temporary zoning changes last week, facing the possibility of state sanctions under Washington’s 2025 Housing Accountability Act.
The law allows the state Department of Commerce to assess whether local governments are meeting state housing requirements. It prompted the vote in Beaux Arts Village, a town of 310 people covering 0.17 square miles within Bellevue.
Despite the unanimous decision, the council meeting included concerns about how the town had reached that point. The vote comes as state changes intended to expand access to more affordable types of housing reach even small Puget Sound jurisdictions. The median home value in Beaux Arts Village is $2.6 million.
