The Arlington County Board filed a lawsuit Thursday to challenge President Donald Trump's proposed Triumphal Arch at Memorial Circle.
The suit, filed in the Eastern District of Virginia, seeks to stop progress toward construction until the National Park Service follows federal environmental review requirements and completes analysis and testing. The board alleges that the agency is moving too quickly without a full review; the agency has said it has not made a final decision to build the arch.
Memorial Circle is on federal parkland west of the Potomac River, across the Memorial Bridge and next to Arlington County. Board Chair Matt de Ferranti said the county's concerns about the project's expected effects on residents had been ignored. Democracy Forward represents the county in the case.
