Ukraine received no US warning before Russian missiles struck Kyiv power plants at about 11pm on Sunday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson Yuri Ihnat said on Monday that no warning had arrived before that barrage, though Ukraine was alerted ahead of a further strike at 3am. Zelenskyy said Russian ballistic missiles had come in waves overnight and criticised Ukraine’s partners for failing to warn it.
The complaint comes amid a dispute with Donald Trump over US policy towards Russia. Trump waived a package of sanctions on Russia on Friday, saying the pause was in the national interest. Ukraine has also complained that US deliveries of PAC-3 air defence missiles have slowed. On Sunday, Trump said he did not want to push Russia away from peace negotiations.
