President Donald Trump signed an executive order Monday to expand federal research into women’s health across all stages of life. First lady Melania Trump had pushed for the initiative.
The order establishes a Women’s Health Division at the National Institutes of Health and a White House Women’s Health Task Force. White House chief of staff Susie Wiles and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will lead the task force, which was set to meet for the first time Monday.
The administration says the effort is intended to advance research on diseases affecting women, support diagnostic technology and improve treatment. Trump said the task force would coordinate with federal agencies and programs. The order does not set specific funding goals.
Melania Trump helped shape the plan through meetings with the president, Kennedy and other federal health officials.
