The Met Office has issued a yellow rain warning for much of central and eastern Scotland from 06:00 on Friday until midnight as Storm Austen moves across the country.
Forecasters say some areas could see 60–80mm of rain, raising the risk of flooding and travel disruption. Network Rail Scotland said it would slow trains on parts of the West Coast and East Coast main lines, along with routes in southern and eastern Scotland. Some journeys will take longer, but trains can continue through the areas facing the heaviest rain.
Storm Boelo is expected to bring strong winds next. A yellow warning covers mainland Scotland, the Western Isles and Orkney from 18:00 on Saturday to 21:00 on Sunday. Gusts of 50–65mph are forecast widely and could reach 80mph in exposed places. Further train speed restrictions are expected in some areas over the weekend.
