Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas will stop offering its Medicare Advantage and Medicare prescription drug plans for the 2027 plan year. A notice from the insurer also lists its Medicare Advantage Dual Care Plus HMO Special Needs Plans among those ending.
The company said it mailed affected customers notices explaining their options before Oct. 2. They will have a special election period to choose another plan, including a different Medicare Advantage plan, or consider other Medicare coverage.
The change comes during Medicare's annual open enrollment, which runs from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7. Changes made during that period take effect Jan. 1, 2027. The insurer said it reviews its Medicare products each year, market by market, to assess whether individual plans remain viable.
