Houston rose to No. 14 in the college football rankings after a win over ranked Oklahoma State, reaching its highest position since 2016. The Cougars are No. 16 in the AFCA Coaches poll.
Only three Big 12 teams rank ahead of Houston: No. 2 BYU, No. 8 Texas Tech and No. 10 Utah. Arizona is No. 25. Houston has not ranked this high at any other point this season.
The Cougars play Utah in Salt Lake City on Oct. 24, with ESPN College GameDay set to spotlight the matchup. Utah is one of six undefeated FBS teams. Houston Athletics says the game will mark the Cougars’ first back-to-back matchups against ranked opponents since 1977.
