Miami Carol City Senior High's football team has been barred from postseason play after a brawl with Grayson High School players in Georgia. The Florida High School Athletic Association notified the school of the sanctions Wednesday.
The fight broke out during postgame handshakes after Grayson beat Carol City 10-9 in Loganville. Video shared on social media shows players from both teams trying to hit one another and pulling at jerseys.
The association also suspended 15 Carol City players for varying lengths of time, imposed a $1,500 penalty on the school and required a compliance workshop. Executive Director Craig Damon said the association reviewed video and a report from Carol City before finding violations.
Carol City has a 3-3 record, with all three losses against Georgia teams. Miami-Dade County Public Schools spokesperson Elmo Lugo said the district knows about the sanctions and expects student-athletes to uphold its standards of conduct and sportsmanship.
