San Francisco’s Democratic County Central Committee voted Sunday night to withdraw its endorsement of Manny Yekutiel for District 8 supervisor and endorse Gary McCoy instead.
The committee voted 29-0 to void its August endorsement of Yekutiel, then backed McCoy 20-8, with one abstention. Yekutiel suspended his campaign on Oct. 1 after a new sexual assault allegation was published, but his name remains on the ballot. McCoy is running against Michael Nguyen and Darshini Patel.
Party chair Nancy Tung acknowledged that the committee’s sexual misconduct policy had failed people who came forward with allegations. She said she would work with Brad Chapin, the first man to accuse Yekutiel of assault, to revise the policy. After critics called for her resignation during public comment, Tung said she intended to finish her term.
