Andy Serkis has acknowledged criticism of the original Lord of the Rings films’ lack of diversity and says he plans to take it into account in his new film, The Hunt for Gollum.
Serkis, who voiced Gollum and performed the character through motion capture, described the original cast as predominantly white. Fans have criticised the limited diversity among actors in the trilogy’s best-known roles.
The trilogy’s final film, The Return of the King, won 11 Oscars. Serkis’s comments come as he discusses casting for The Hunt for Gollum.
