Pasadena record store and music venue Healing Force of the Universe is raising funds to move to G-Son Studios in Atwater Village. Its current location is set to close this month.
Healing Force has spent three years near Pasadena City College, where owner Austin Manuel says it has become a gathering place for musicians and music fans despite limited foot traffic. Jazz trumpeter Bobby Bradford, who lost his home and personal archive in the Eaton Fire, performs there regularly.
The proposed new space is a repurposed ballroom that once served as the Beastie Boys’ recording base. The group recorded Check Your Head and Ill Communication there, and Beck recorded tracks for Odelay at the studio. Healing Force is seeking a larger space for its record store and performances.
