Five members of one family were killed and two people injured in shootings at several locations in East St Louis, Illinois. Authorities said a 15-year-old girl and her 16-year-old boyfriend were involved in the killings.
The boyfriend, identified by police as Ja’ymeir Davis, was charged on Tuesday with five counts of murder. The girl has been arrested but has not been formally charged, and her name has not been made public.
Those killed were Quentin Thompson, 21, and Shania Thompson, 25, both step-siblings of the girl; her cousin Devin May, 24; her aunt Cherie May, 49; and her grandmother Patricia May, 74.
Her father, Marcus May, said the parents had switched her to home schooling after trouble at school, a move he said angered her. He said her mother had warned him five days before the shootings that the girl had run away and taken her gun. May also said he had not taken seriously a warning about a group chat where teenagers allegedly discussed killing relatives.
