Twelve people have been arrested after a suspected threat led police to close the UK Ijtima gathering at Shrubland Hall in Barham, near Ipswich, on Sunday morning.
Suffolk Police worked with organisers to end the event early as a precaution. The weekend gathering had begun on Friday and was due to continue until 14:00 BST on Sunday. It had been promoted as an event for 15,000 people, with Muslims from about 50 countries encouraged to attend.
Counter Terrorism Policing said it had been alerted to a potential serious threat and declared a major incident. That status was lifted after the arrests. Investigators described the inquiry as related to extreme right-wing terrorism; those detained were held on suspicion of terrorism offences, conspiracy to murder and assisting an offender.
Suffolk Police said there was no wider threat to the public. Officers remained at the venue on Sunday and Monday.
