Counter-terrorism officers have reportedly taken over the investigation into the killing of former Conservative minister Ann Widdecombe in Devon. Investigators are said to be examining whether the attack was politically motivated.
The change followed the reported discovery of Russian communist literature and other political material at the suspect’s home. Officers are understood to be looking into whether Widdecombe, 78, was targeted because of her connection to Reform UK. A motive has not been established.
Widdecombe’s body was found at her home in Haytor, Dartmoor, on Thursday morning. Devon and Cornwall Police had publicly said there was no terrorism link; Reform UK has accused the force of misleading the public in the early stages of the investigation.
