Keir Starmer could attend the World Cup final as one of his last acts as prime minister if England beat Argentina in Wednesday’s semi-final.
Starmer is due to be replaced in Downing Street by Andy Burnham on Monday after being effectively ousted as Labour leader. He is expected to take his final Prime Minister’s Questions at noon on Wednesday rather than travel to Atlanta for the match against Argentina.
England would face Spain or France in Sunday’s final if they advance. Starmer, an avid football fan, is widely expected to travel to New Jersey for the final if England qualify, though the trip remains uncertain.
