Keir Starmer could attend the World Cup final as one of his last acts as prime minister if England beat Argentina in Wednesday’s semi-final.
Starmer is due to be replaced in Downing Street by Andy Burnham on Monday after being effectively ousted as Labour leader. He is expected to take his final Prime Minister’s Questions at noon on Wednesday rather than travel to Atlanta for the Argentina match.
If England reach Sunday’s final, Starmer is widely expected to travel to New Jersey. England would face either Spain or France, with a chance to end a 60-year wait for a World Cup title.
