A 14-year-old pupil has been arrested after a headteacher and a teacher were shot at Lakanal middle school in Aubagne, near Marseille, on Monday morning.
Regional officials said the pupil brought a shotgun onto the grounds in a guitar case and opened fire before a staff member restrained him. Aubagne Mayor Jean-Pierre Squillari said no children were hurt and the two staff members’ injuries were not life-threatening. The pupil was taken into police custody.
The headteacher, 53, was reportedly wounded in the leg and lower back, while the 37-year-old teacher was hit in the thigh. A third person was reported to have minor injuries. Squillari said pupils were quickly secured, and psychological support was set up at the school.
