US ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee has condemned a reported attack on photojournalist Heidi Levine and called for an investigation, arrests and prosecution of those involved.
Levine, 63, said masked Israeli settlers beat her for more than 10 minutes last Friday as Palestinians tried to harvest olives. She is recovering in hospital after hand surgery and has broken ribs and other injuries.
Huckabee described the attack as a despicable act of terror. Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he condemned violence against anyone, but called the attack alleged and said its circumstances remained unclear. Levine said his response left her shocked and insulted.
