Trains between Scotland and London were disrupted on Monday morning while emergency services dealt with an incident between Preston and Wigan North Western.
Avanti West Coast said all lines on the West Coast Main Line were blocked. Some trains, including Glasgow-to-London services, have been cancelled, and others travelling through the area may be delayed.
Passengers with Avanti tickets can travel between Edinburgh and London King’s Cross on London North Eastern Railway services. Avanti said passengers whose trains are cancelled can use their existing tickets on alternative routes within two hours before or after their booked service.
Passengers who abandon their journey because of the disruption can claim a fee-free refund from their ticket seller. Those who continue travelling but are delayed by 15 minutes or more can claim Delay Repay compensation from the train company they travelled with.
