Freedom of Information figures show that 23 senior Glasgow City Council staff received promotions, temporary promotions or salary regradings between 2023 and 2026. Separately, 11% of employees now face potential losses under a proposed new pay and grading system.
Fourteen of the 23 moved to grade 11, six to grade 12, and three to grades 13, 14 and 15 respectively. A separate information request put the annual salary range for grade 10 at £86,532.09 to £100,402.93, indicating that grade 11 and higher posts pay more than £100,000.
Councillor Paul Carey said some constituents were worried, and in some cases frightened, about the proposed changes. The council said the new system includes senior staff, not just lower grades. It added that promotions and job changes in recent years are separate from that process and occur across all grades.
