Scottish swimmer Archie Goodburn is due to meet the prime minister at Downing Street after calling for more investment in brain cancer research.
Goodburn, 25, was diagnosed with three inoperable brain tumours two years ago. During a tearful television appearance, he urged the government to appoint a national brain cancer lead, strengthen research and care, and bring clinical trials running elsewhere to the UK. Andy Burnham later contacted him on social media to arrange the meeting.
The Edinburgh-born athlete said numbness and seizures during training for the 2024 Olympic trials led him to seek medical tests. He has undergone chemotherapy and radiotherapy, but doctors found surgery to remove the tumours was not possible. He reached the 50m breaststroke final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
