The Met Office has issued wind warnings across Wales and much of England. One yellow warning, in force until 5pm, covers parts of Wales and Herefordshire as well as England’s south coast and south-west; gusts could reach 70mph. A wider warning for England and Wales lasts until 9pm.

The Environment Agency has issued two urgent flood warnings along sections of the Dorset and South Devon coasts, where flooding is expected. CrossCountry, Great Western and South Western rail services are among those disrupted, and 138 schools in Cornwall and the Channel Islands are closed or opening late.

Further wind warnings are due to take effect in Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England. The Met Office says another Atlantic low-pressure system is approaching.
