Federal agents reportedly searched US Representative Ilhan Omar’s Washington, DC home on Monday morning as part of a criminal investigation. The Justice Department confirmed that a search took place in the Washington area but did not identify the property.
The department said Homeland Security Investigations had carried out a judicially authorised search warrant in an ongoing federal investigation. The warrant’s purpose remains unclear.
Video of a property identified as Omar’s residence appeared to show people wearing Homeland Security Investigations jackets. An account attributed to unnamed people familiar with the matter said agents were examining immigration paperwork completed by Omar’s father when she was a child; officials have not confirmed that account.
President Donald Trump and key allies have accused Omar of fraud involving her family’s immigration history. She has consistently denied those allegations.
