Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called for a criminal investigation and prosecution of soldiers and officers interviewed in the documentary NAZA.
In a letter to Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara, military chief Lt Gen Eyal Zamir and Shin Bet head David Zini, Netanyahu demanded that officials identify people involved in or appearing in the film. He alleged offences involving information security, criminal defamation and harm to Israel’s diplomatic and security interests.
Directed by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, the documentary examines the killing of civilians in Gaza. It won a special jury prize after premiering at the Venice international film festival last month. The film is in cinemas in the UK and US, with screenings planned in more than 50 countries.
