Atlanta could tie a daily high-temperature record at 85 degrees Friday, its fourth straight day of record-setting warmth if the forecast holds.
A strong cold front is expected to reach North Georgia late Friday, bringing northwest winds and a chance of isolated showers early in the evening. Gusts could reach 30 to 35 mph across much of the region overnight and exceed 40 mph on mountain ridgetops, where weakened trees and limbs may be vulnerable.
Temperatures are forecast to fall into the 40s and 50s by Saturday morning. After morning clouds clear, Saturday’s highs should stay in the 60s. Sunday could begin near freezing in the North Georgia mountains, while highs across the region remain in the 60s through Monday.
Temperatures are expected to rise toward seasonal averages by midweek and reach the low 80s late next week.
