Bill Thorn has died at 96 after taking part in every Peachtree Road Race from its first running in 1970 through 2022.
The Atlanta Track Club called him a fixture of Atlanta’s running community. Thorn spent 65 years coaching, including decades at Landmark Christian School, where teams he helped coach claimed 42 state titles.
In 2023, Thorn said he would not run the race again. Named that year’s Grand Marshal, he rode along the course and crossed the finish line on foot. The track club said his influence reached generations of athletes.
