The Chicago White Sox lost 2-0 to the Cleveland Guardians in a decisive Game 5 of the American League Division Series, ending their postseason run after taking a 2-0 series lead.
Chicago had two chances to close out the series at Rate Field but entered the finale having struck out 31 times across those two home games. The offense struggled again against Cleveland pitcher Gavin Williams, who struck out 12 in 5⅔ innings while allowing one hit and two walks.
The White Sox’s only chance with runners in scoring position came in the sixth inning. After Williams left with the bases loaded and two outs, Munetaka Murakami struck out to end the threat.
